High-energy X-ray and gamma radiation are medical miracles and guarantee our safety. Whether for precautionary examinations or for treatment: without radiation which penetrates body tissue, modern medicine would be unthinkable. The quality checks on product parts, too, are dependent on radiation technology: only in this way can tiny hair cracks on product parts be reliably recognised.

As useful as X-ray and gamma radiation is today, their safe and controlled usage is just as important. Only if the required energy is correctly dosed and used within a confined space can hazardous side-effects be excluded. The operation of radiation sources is regulated in the current Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV). Operators of high-radiation apparatus must ensure that personnel and patients are not subjected to excessive radiation dosages. One of the most important precautionary measures is the installation of shielding made of radiation-adsorbent materials. Lead products in particular have proven highly effective in radiation protection. Even thin sheets of this metal are able to shield high-energy radiation reliably. In addition, the material can be moulded by hand and can therefore adapt flexibly to various space requirements.

SCHNEIDER has produced a wide range of products for radiation protection over decades. The use of the products is dependent on the required shielding effect and the on-site conditions.
